Sprint Nextel Settles With NY Consumer Affairs Dept On Adverts

Sprint Nextel Corp. on Tuesday said it has settled its dispute with New York City's Department of Consumer Affairs.

In July 2005, separate lawsuits filed by the agency against Sprint and Nextel claimed that certain ads placed by the companies, as well as six independent retailers, violated local rules.

As part of the settlement, Sprint Nextel agreed to ensure that print advertising in newspapers and magazines principally targeted to New York's market complies with local rules.

Also, Sprint Nextel, which said it is the last wireless company to reach agreement with the agency, will periodically monitor the retailers' New York ads and will make an undisclosed payment to the Consumer Affairs Department.
