Cofetel Applies CPP to Domestic LD Calls to Mobiles
Mexico's telecoms regulator Cofetel has passed a resolution mandating that domestic long-distance calls to mobile phones be subject to calling party pays rules, newspaper El Financiero reported.
The calling-party pays system, under which mobile users are not charged for incoming calls, already applies to local fixed to mobile calls in Mexico.
Under the new rules, the same provisions will apply to domestic long distance calls if those receiving calls are in the same city or district in which they registered their terminals.
If they are elsewhere, they will be charged a roaming fee, with calling parties picking up the rest of the cost of the call.
Mexico's mobile operators Telcel, Telefónica Móviles, Iusacell and Unefon have until October to implement the measure.
