Vietnam Testing WiMAX Service

After the Government allowed four companies to provide Wimax service on a trial basis, Vietnam's Ministry of Posts and Telematics (MPT) has granted licenses to those firms to test the service. The four companies - the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT), the Vietnam Television Technology Company (VTC), the Vietnam Military Telecommunications Corporation (Viettel) and FPT Telecom Joint Stock Company (FPT Telecom) - will offer the Wimax service under the standards approved by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in 2004.

After one year of trial operation, MPT will consider permanently licensing those companies to offer the Wimax service.

At present, due to a lack of equipment for mobile Wimax services, those companies are not allowed to test this service."
