Motorola to Support Vivo's 3G Network Expansion
US mobile phone manufacturer Motorola has pledged support as a 3G network supplier for Brazil's largest mobile phone operator Vivo, Motorola said in a statement.
Motorola has already helped Vivo increase coverage of its high speed CDMA data network in Curitiba city and to launch the service in Brasília, which is the latest city to be covered, a Vivo spokesperson told BNamericas.
In addition to six current cities with 3G, Vivo also intends to roll out the services to new cities in the first half of 2006, the spokesperson said. The number of locations is still not certain and depends on demand, she added.
As well as supporting increased traffic and enabling deployment of new applications and services, the network expansion is designed to provide mobile data subscribers with faster access to internet, m-commerce and company intranets.
Vivo is allowing its 3G clients to enjoy next generation applications such as TV transmission on mobile phones, launched in July 2005, said Javier Rodriquez, Vivo's technology vice president.
Motorola generated worldwide sales of US$36.8bn in 2005. Vivo has more than 30 million customers in Brazil.
