RFS to Open Factory in Mexico in July

US telecom infrastructure supplier and antenna manufacturer Radio Frequency Systems (RFS) plans to open a factory in Mexico in July this year, RFS's Latin America president Luis Antonio Alves de Oliveira told BNamericas.

The factory will have the capacity to produce around 2,500 different types of antennas. "We will know the final location in two weeks, which will probably be near the border with Texas," Alves de Oliveira said.

The initial aim of the factory is to supply the Mexican and US market. Then RFS will analyze the potential for further expansion, according to Alves de Oliveira. "The strategy is to be closer and closer to the customers' needs," he said.

RFS, which provides integrated and complete solutions for wireless communications including GSM/GPRS, WiMax and 3G, has also invested US$1mn in a fourth factory in Embu in Brazil's São Paulo state, which will open in a few days, said Alves de Oliveira.

The new Embu factory will have capacity to produce 1,500 units, specifically systems that increase signal coverage and allow the coexistence of different radio frequencies in a single transmission. The factory will employee 50 people.

RFS's Latin America headquarters are in Brazil, where the company has been present for 30 years. The firm's activities include logistics, development and production. "RFS is in almost all of the region's countries," said Jorg Springer vice president for global marketing and communications at RFS.

RFS clients include fixed and mobile operators, OEMs, systems integrators, radio and TV broadcasters as well as energy and mining companies.
