Turkcell Opens New R&D Center
Turkeys Turkcell has opened a new R&D Center, which brings together all of the Company's research and development operations in a single location. Over 260 engineers dedicated to developing mobile communications technologies and services will staff the 3,000 square meters R&D Center. Turkcell's CEO Mr. Muzaffer Akpinar said "Our aim in this very building will be to focus on transforming the way GSM technologies are used by developing new services and features that will enrich the lives of our subscribers now and in the future, and will continue to bring international success to Turkey".
Noting the importance of the new Center for Turkcell, Mr. Akpinar continued "Turkcell has worked hard with our close to 200 business partners to build a strong reputation for innovation in mobile communications technology and services. With our new R&D Center, we will continue to create services that are a first in the world, maximize the innovation potential of our engineering talent and local knowledge, and develop mobile technologies and services that will make life better for people in Turkey. For this, Turkcell also plans to allocate a portion of the US$350 million the Company has committed to new investments in 2006, to R&D operations."
Turkcell also expects to license some of the products and services created at the R&D Center for use by mobile companies in other countries. Turkcell, with operations in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine in addition to Turkey will continue to focus on its investments and operations as a regional player."
