A radio spectrum dispute between Vodafone and RomTelecom in Romania has been resolved with RomTelecom shutting down trial networks which used 3G spectrum allocated to Vodafone. RomTelecom had been granted a temporary license to use the spectrum so that it could offer fixed wireless services in the Alba, Buzau and Cluj counties, but was supposed to release the spectrum to the 3G license holders, in this case Vodafone back in 2005. The problems had resulted in Vodafone delaying its 3G network expansion in the area.
Vodafone has agreed to offer preferential tariffs to people disconnected from Romtelecom's services in the Zoresti and Ciobanoaia villages, Buzau county who have been cut off now that their fixed wireless network has been shut down.
Connex Vodafone has the exclusive right to use nationally the frequency granted through the 3G license. Connex Vodafone won the 3G license following the public auction organized by the IT&C Ministry, in 2005. On April 25, 2005, Connex Vodafone commercially launched 3G services in Romania, and is now offering 3G services in 15 cities. Buzau is scheduled to benefit from 3G services from the end of this month.
Buzau is a county (judet) in the center-East Romania, in Eastern Wallachia region, in center Muntenia, with the capital city at Buzau (population: 149,025)."
