Cingular, T-Mobile Confirm Component Issues With Razr"

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Cingular Wireless and T-Mobile USA confirmed they had pulled a number of Motorola Razrs because they were inadvertently disconnecting phone calls.

A "limited" number of Razrs sold since Feb. 1 were pulled, according to Cingular spokesman Mark Siegel. He declined to comment on the specific number of phones taken off the shelves.

T-Mobile USA spokesman Peter Dobrow also confirmed that its Razrs had been pulled.

Cingular and T-Mobile USA had halted the sale of the trendy Razr on Wednesday after Motorola alerted them of the problem, which was first reported by the Chicago Tribune. A faulty component caused the phones to disconnect and reboot.

Motorola wasn't immediately available for comment.

Siegel said that Motorola was working with Cingular to correct the problem, and that new corrected phones had already been shipped. Dobrow added that the affected phones were only shipped in February.

"This is not a product recall," Siegel said.
