Golden Telecom to Build 5,000 WiFi Nodes in Moscow in 2006 "

MOSCOW, Mar 9 (Prime-Tass) -- Golden Telecom, a U.S.-registered provider of telecommunications and Internet services in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), plans to develop a WiFi network with up to 5,000 access nodes in Moscow, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The number of access nodes may be increased if needed, the company added.

"The broadband services will be competitively priced and will offer access faster, than many other Internet access services currently available in Moscow. Currently, the company expects to continue testing of its WiFi access nodes in selected areas and anticipates concluding testing sometime in April-June. After the WiFi testing is completed, the company will phase in its customer access plans throughout Moscow," Golden Telecom said.

It was not clear how much Golden Telecom plans to invest in the project.

Golden Telecom is a leading provider of integrated telecommunications and Internet services in major population centers throughout Russia, Ukraine and other countries of the CIS.
