China's Mobile Phone Sales Volume Neared 21 Million In Q4 2005

Analysys International reports that China's mobile phone market grew steadily and sales volume reached 20.86 million units in the fourth quarter of 2005, increasing 7.6% quarter on quarter, in its recently released report China Mobile Phone Market Quarterly Tracker Q4 2005. According to the report, in the fourth quarter of 2005, China's GSM handsets market maintained an upward trend, with the sales volume reaching 19.51 million units.

However, Analysys International says the CDMA handsets market continued to decline for the fourth quarter, and the sales volume was only 1.35 million units.

Market shares between Chinese and overseas vendors maintained almost unchanged in China's mobile phone market. However, Analysys International says the market concentration of GSM handsets increased. Nokia, Motorola and Samsung further broadened the gap with the other vendors. Nokia's market share grew especially quick. Motorola and Samsung increased only slightly. Sony Ericsson, driven by its music handset products, is also developing quickly with sales volume climbing.

Chinese domestic GSM handset makers' adjusting of market positioning began to show effect in the fourth quarter of 2005. In Particular, Lenovo continued its strong growth on handset sales.

According to the report, China's CDMA handset market was still dominated by overseas brands in the fourth quarter of 2005. Samsung and LG maintained stable at the top. Nokia's share in the CDMA market improved. Chinese vendors ZTE and Hisense were only in the fourth and sixth respectively concerning CDMA market share."
