Movistar Unit Surpasses 8 Million Clients
Argentine mobile operator Movistar Argentina, a unit of Spain's Telefónica Móviles, saw its client base rise 45% last year to over 8 million users, the company said in a statement.
"We consolidated our leadership in Argentina in 2005, a year when mobile penetration surpassed 50%, which demonstrates we are in a market that is growing fast and that still has plenty of potential," Movistar Argentina general manager Federico Rava said.
During 2005, Movistar installed 981 radio stations to expand its GSM network in the country.
Commenting on business plans for 2006, Rava said the company will continue working on expanding and upgrading its network, increasing client loyalty and launching new innovative services.
