Ancel Aims for 725k Users by Year End
Uruguayan state-run operator Ancel expects to reach 725,000 subscribers by year end, compared to the current client base of nearly 610,000, local press quoted MarÃa Simon, head of parent company Antel as saying.
During 2006, the company plans several investments mostly for implementing new services such as mobile payment through the handset. Another strategy to increase the client base is to reduce tariffs by 20% for one month.
Aiming to maintain the quality of service, Ancel also plans to increase the number of radio stations with 100 new units, with an investment plan worth approximately US$17.3mn.
"Consequently, we will have an important coverage in the country since we would be covering all medium and small locations, expanding coverage on national highways and other roads," Simon was quoted as saying.
Ancel is also investing in expanding its prepaid platform and the capacity to traffic text messages.
