Verizon Wireless Plans To Launch Music Service
LAS VEGAS -(Dow Jones)- Verizon Wireless plans to launch on Jan. 16 a music service that lets users download music over the air.
In a press release Thursday, Verizon Wireless said V Cast Music service allows downloads directly to wireless telephones or to Windows XP personal computers. The service also allows digital music transfers between personal computers and telephones.
Verizon Wireless said purchases from personal computers cost 99 cents and may be transferred via USB cable to telephones. Purchases from handsets cost $1.99.
V Cast Music will have more than 1 million songs available from major and independent music labels by spring. Artists from Warner Music Group, EMI Music, Universal, Sony/BMG and The Orchard will be available for download.
