Nortel to Supply $5.7 Mln EDGE Equipment to Russia's Baikalvestcom
MOSCOW, Dec 29 (Prime-Tass) -- Canadian communications equipment producer Nortel will supply EDGE equipment worth U.S. $5.7 million to Russian mobile operator Baikalvestcom, Nortel said Thursday.
The supply will be made under a one-year contract concluded by the two companies in September, Nortel said.
In November Baikalvestcom launched high-speed EDGE technology in test mode. Currently the test area covers several central districts in the city of Irkutsk.
In 2006 the company expects that its EDGE network will cover the whole Irkutsk Region.
Baikalvestcom provides GSM 900/1800 standard services in the Irkutsk Region.
Baikalvestcom's subscriber base exceeds 600,000 people as of now.
