South Africa Gets Push-2-Talk

South Africa, Vodacom has launched the first Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) service to the South African business market. The communication experience of PoC can best be described as a walkie-talkie or two way radio communication experience, which is a one-to-one and/or one-to-many direct voice communication service that is carried across the Vodacom network, using the Motorola V360 cellphone.

"This solution from Vodacom can immediately benefit various businesses in industries such as the construction, transport, security, distribution, manufacturing, and surface mining, as well as companies operating in the catering, hospitality and courier industries", says Pieter Uys, Vodacom Chief Operating Officer.

Further commenting on the benefits of the PoC solution Uys says, "Vodacom's PoC solution is available to the business market and is designed to increase productivity and work group collaboration and efficiencies. Other benefits include enhanced workflow co-ordination, inter-working between groups and the sharing of critical job information instantly to all group members at the same time."

A PoC user can create his own groups which would allow him to speak to everyone in this group simultaneously. The PoC user is able to see who on their PoC contact list is available, which results in an enhanced user experience."
