Kosovo's GSM network operator, Vala 900 says that it has engaged in its 4th expansion phase and is planning to expand coverage to 99% of the population by adding 284 new base stations. The company will also increase network capacity to 700,000 customers. The network is also planning to improve GPRS and deploy MMS services. Implementation process will last 12 to 18 months.
Mr. Philip Candler, the acting Director of GSM Vala 900 presented PTK.J.S.C. objectives through implementing the Fourth Phase of GSM Vala 900. "Phase 4 of GSM Vala 900 enables 99% coverage of inhabitant territory of Kosovo and increasing its capacity up to 700 thousand customers. Meanwhile, we will establish new incomes on behalf of PTK J.S.C. and the budget of Kosovo", explained Mr. Candler.
According to Mr. Driton Halili, the Commercial Director for GSM Vala 900, GSM Vala 900 will enable new services by the middle of year 2006, such as: delivering messages abroad, photo delivery, checking the flight schedule, weather condition for roads within the region (telecommunication) along with many other services through internet.
Mr. Mejdi Xhokli, the adviser of Minister for Transport and Telecommunication also member of Board of Directors at PTK.J.S.C., confirmed that PTK.J.S.C. by expanding its Network and services, meantime is getting prepared for the competition, which according to him, is behind the door.
"The voice of Ministry request reached to the Internationals, and we believe that Internationals will take all necessary precautions through TRA in order to eliminate the illegal competitors operating in Kosovo", affirmed Mr. Xhokli."
