India GSM Networks Record Additions in November

India's COAI has reported a subscriber growth of 2.32 million during the month of November'05, which is once again a record high, being 10% higher than the previous month. This is now the highest monthly subscriber additions (2.32 million) recorded by the GSM industry since inception of service. The cumulative All India GSM subscriber base has now grown to 55.31 million in November 2005, up from 52.98 million in October 2005, a growth of 4.4% for the month under review.

Among all circles, Category C circles continued to witness the highest rate of growth at 8.31%, which is much higher as compared to metros and A & B circles. Within the Category C circles, Bihar recorded highest additions in absolute terms (123,895 new subscribers, 8.3% growth), followed by Orissa (71,556 new subscribers, 9.1% growth).

Category C was followed by Category B circles, which recorded a healthy growth of close to 5% over the previous month. Highest additions were in Kerala (1,87,461 new subscribers, 7.6% growth) followed by Punjab at (1,80,032 new subscribers, 5.2% growth).

Category A circles witnessed a growth of 3.9%. Amongst the Category A circles, Gujarat recorded highest additions (1,84,205 new subscribers, 5% growth) followed by Tamil Nadu (1,77,171 new subscribers, 4.90% growth).

The Metro subscribers grew by 3.2% over the previous month. Delhi and Mumbai continue to dominate in terms of both total volume as well as market share. Delhi continues to be the leading cellular market in the country with 4.95 million subscribers accounting for 8.95% of the total market, closely followed by Mumbai with 4.85 million subscribers accounting for 8.77% of the total market.

Amongst all circles, Kerala added the maximum subscribers at 1,87,461 new additions."
