Research In Motion Cuts 3Q, 4Q Subscriber Additions View"

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Research In Motion Ltd. lowered its outlook for third and fourth quarter subscriber additions but backed its revenue guidance for the two quarters.

In a press release Wednesday, the maker of the wireless BlackBerry system said it expects third-quarter subscriber additions to be 8% lower than the previously-forecast range of 680,000 to 710,000 due to unanticipated launch delays for two BlackBerry handsets.

The company said these handsets won't be available nationally until early December, and many customers delayed purchases until the newer products came out.

Research In Motion said revenue for the third quarter ending Nov. 26 should still be between $540 million to $570 million. In the previous third quarter, the company had revenue of $365.9 million.

Research In Motion also lowered its prior fourth-quarter subscriber-additions range by 3% due to the shift in retail product availability. In September, the company said it expected 775,000 to 825,000 new subscribers.

However, the company backed its revenue guidance for the fourth quarter ending March 4 of $590 million to $620 million. In the year-earlier fourth quarter, Research In Motion had revenue of $404.8 million.

Research In Motion will report third-quarter results and host its conference call Dec. 21.
