LONDON -(Dow Jones)- ITV PLC, the U.K.'s largest commercial broadcaster, Wednesday said it has signed a deal with 3 UK, a mobile telecommunications subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd., to offer its most popular shows to mobile phone users via an online portal.
The partnership is for one year, is non-exclusive and is the first deal of its kind signed by ITV. The partnership begins with ITV's reality show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, whereby 3 UK's 3.2 million users can access content before broadcast of the day's highlights on terrestrial television.
The portal will enable 3's users to watch live TV, as well as clips and highlights from shows including soap operas Emmerdale and Coronation Street. ITV has previously offered its content over mobile phone networks on a show-by-show basis.
The ITV content will be specifically designed for mobile phones.
