Fourth UK Network To Get GPRS
Orange, the UK based GSM1800 network, has finally signed a contract to install a GPRS upgrade. The contract is with Ericsson and includes the IP-based core network infrastructure and new terminal devices. The contract is valued at US$58 million. The contract represents the first time Ericsson is supplying Orange with infrastructure equipment in the UK. The new packet-based network is planned to go into service at the end of this year. Orange has actually spent much of the past year telling people that they did not think that GPRS was an ideal solution for data services, although they made a commitment last July to eventually install GPRS"
