Mobile Base Station Contract from US Utility Firm
Wireless Matrix has announced an agreement with one of the leading utilities on the East Coast of the USA serving more than 2 million homes and businesses, for an initial order of 400 Mobile Base Station 2 (MBS2) units. This first purchase order under a three-year agreement is expected to be worth over US$1 million in hardware and airtime service over the life of the contract. Wireless Matrix believes that the initial order represents the first phase of the customer's rollout that could ultimately include up to 2,000 vehicles.
Under the terms of the new agreement, the utility will upgrade its current satellite only hardware and service with 400 MBS2 units, implementing satellite, terrestrial and GPS functionality in five geographic areas. The units will allow the customer to maximize communications with service workers in the field and coordinate their deployment to best meet their operational needs including response to outages.
"Wireless Matrix has enjoyed a long working relationship with one of the subsidiaries of this key customer dating back to some of our earliest products," said J. Richard Carlson, President and CEO of Wireless Matrix. "The expansion of this relationship is a strong validation of how much value Wireless Matrix delivers to customers needing 100% availability for mission critical data needs. The built-in redundancies in our solution, as well as our reliable performance during recent natural disasters, were key considerations in this customer's decision to deploy Wireless Matrix modems."
