Danish Switchboards

Denmark's Sonofon has just launched a service that is says is designed to aid small businesses in dumping their landlines - the Mobile Switchboard. The Mobile Switchboard lets several co-workers in the company share switchboard duties and gives them a rapid overview of which staff are occupied or available to take calls. The software can be installed in an unlimited number of PCs without staff having to be tied to their workstations. Instead they can use the system directly on their mobiles and thus not be dependent on time and location.

"The Mobile Switchboard transforms a mobile telephone into an efficient, user-friendly switchboard that enables the receptionist to deal with traditional call diversion and forwarding, thus making the fixed line system redundant. In fact, The Mobile Switchboard has a range of advantages over traditional fixed line switchboards," says Henrik Vestergaard, Product Manager, Sonofon.

"With their mobiles, employees on switchboard duty can simply transfer their duties to other colleagues because each of them can independently operate the switchboard from their own PC. It is also possible to divert calls automatically to the first available co-worker," says Henrik Vestergaard, who adds:

"Companies will become totally mobile, whilst also boosting their level of service since they can also opt only to divert calls when staff are available. The system controls calls by combining data from the company's Outlook diary system with the status of mobile phones. It is cheaper and more efficient than a fixed line switchboard," concludes Henrik Vestergaard."
