Use SMS to Boil Water

The tea seller, PG Tips has teamed up with Orange UK to develop a PG Tips branded kettle - that can be switched on by sending it an SMS. Inspired by loveable inventors Wallace & Gromit, PG Tips, best known for the innovative pyramid bag, have created a device set to revolutionise teatime - gone are the days when you'd argue over who's going to put the kettle on, now the ReadyWhenUR Kettle will do it itself, giving you longer to put your feet up and relax.

So how does it work?

The ReadyWhenUR Kettle consists primarily of a radio receiver unit, an electronic circuit and a mechanical system of levers. When a text is sent to the kettle, this is picked up by the receiver. The receiver in turn sends a signal to the electronic circuit. This circuit controls a system of levers which translates the electronic signal generated by the text into a mechanical movement that ultimately switches on the kettle

The ReadyWhenUR Kettle is due to be available in selected stores from early 2006."
