Taiwan's BenQ is to start dual branding its mobile phones with the Siemens brand name from the first quarter of next year, according to a company spokesperson. Under the terms on BenQ's purchase of the Siemens handset division, the company gained the right to use the Siemens brand name for 18 months, starting in a few weeks time, with co-branding rights lasting 5 years.
From next year, BenQ plans to operate three separate brand names, BenQ - Siemens - BenqSiemens
The BenQ brand name will be restricted to existing products that are sold in the company's home market and the new co-branded name will be used for all new products that will be sold globally.
BenQ also plans to maintain existing labour and work agreements that exist with the 3,700 handset staff that BenQ inherited during next year, but has no definite plans beyond 2006."
