Openwave Claims Dominance of the MVNO Market
Openwave Systems says that it has over 85% of the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) mobile data market share in the USA. The MVNO market is expected to reach US$10.7 billion in service revenue and amass a total of 40 million customers by 2010, as operators seek to gain a competitive edge through service differentiation. To date, Openwave's client and infrastructure software powers data services for over 7 million MVNO subscribers.
Openwave provides IP-based software solutions that span client to server and enable MVNOs to differentiate by targeting segments of the population with tailored service packages based on lifestyle, affiliation or community. Openwave's MVNO solution personalizes and simplifies multimedia messaging, wireless Internet browsing, music and video services on any network or handset.
Virgin Mobile, an Openwave customer and one of the fastest growing MVNOs in the US with over 3 million subscribers, reported that over 60% of its subscribers used non-voice data services in 2004.
"We looked for a partner that could deliver fast time to market without sacrificing service quality. Openwave helped us create an experience that sells," said Mike Parks, chief information officer at Virgin Mobile USA. "Handsets and data services change all the time. Openwave makes it possible to differentiate services regardless of the constant evolutionary nature of data services."
