Motorola Tops US Market Share Q2'05
A new report from Strategy Analytics has stated that Motorola's RAZR handset has rapidly risen to the top of the priority list for Cingular Wireless, and a concentrated media effort around the model has contributed to Motorola's 40% annual growth in Q2 2005. The media blitz around the RAZR is serving to cement Motorola's brand in the volume driving 20 to 40 age segments.
Motorola, at 34% share in North America, nearly doubles Nokia's 17% share position in Q2 2005.
With room for improvement in its CDMA product line-up, Motorola is set to see continuing growth in the NA market well into 2006.
Nokia increased sales sequentially, but volumes were down 20% year over year. LG fell back to fourth position, overtaken by Samsung as it also faced a 10% sequential drop in volumes. Except for Motorola and LG, most vendors showed a decrease in year over year volumes.
North American sell in volumes slowed up by 0.3% year over year and reached 35 million over the traditionally slow second quarter. Total GSM sales rose 16%, driven by Cingular's consolidation efforts and T-Mobile's low-cost strategy. CDMA sales declined marginally by 5% in line with slow uptakes at Sprint PCS and its subsidiaries."
