3G Roaming Between Singapore and South Korea
Singapore's SingTel has launched 3G roaming coverage in South Korea. It has signed up SK Telecom, South Korea's largest mobile operator, as a 3G roaming partner. SingTel Mobile customers will be able to make and receive local and international voice calls, video calls and SMS using their 3G handsets when they are in Seoul. Previously, Singapore mobile customers would have to change out their 2G handsets to be able to use mobile services when they travel to South Korea.
3G roaming coverage will be extended to 24 South Korean cities, including popular destinations such as Busan and Jeju, by the end of this year. This 3G roaming is the first between Singapore and South Korea.
SK Telecom's mobile customers roaming on the SingTel Mobile network in Singapore will also be able to enjoy voice and video calls and text messaging.
Mr Lim Chuan Poh, SingTel's Executive Vice President (Consumer Business) & CEO of SingTel Mobile, said: "SingTel continues to deliver the most extensive roaming coverage to Singapore travellers. With this new arrangement, our mobile customers can claim to be able to enjoy roaming services in virtually every major country in the world using either their 2G or 3G handsets."
SingTel has more than 20,000 3G customers to date.
With the increasing appeal of Korean TV dramas and K-pop in Singapore, South Korea has become a popular travel destination for Singaporeans."
