MMS Launched in Uganda

MTN Uganda has launched a MMS facility on its network, under the Y'ellopiX brand name. In a press statement issued last week, MTN Chief Executive Officer, Noel Meier said MTN is aware of the highly discerning nature of its customers and the global trends in the industry, and is committed to bringing its customers the latest services in mobile telephony.

"Y'ellopiX is a product that builds on the supreme success of SMS usage in Uganda. The advent of picture messaging is going to greatly enhance the customer experience on the MTN network," he explained.

"This is the first phase of a product rollout off MTN's recently introduced GPRS platform, which will allow our customers enjoy a wide range of MultiMedia Services like polyphonic and true ringtones, audio and visual clips that will enhance the communication possibilities for mobile users even further," he added.

Y'ellopiX is available to both post and pre-paid customers making Uganda the first country outside Sub Saharan Africa to offer the product to its entire customer base. Customers will be notified on how they can get the service activated through SMS communication from MTN.

MTN is the leading mobile telecommunications operator in Uganda with over 700,000 customers on its network."
