Chinese 3G Systems Ready for Deployment
Alcatel Shanghai Bell and Datang Mobile have jointly announced that they have completed the industrialization phase of TD-SCDMA development in China and are now ready to deliver TD-SCDMA products to the China 3G market. This is the most significant milestone reached to date in achieving full commercial deployment of TD-SCDMA, since the two companies signed a partnership agreement to develop TD-SCDMA in November 2004.
Through its partnership with Datang mobile, Alcatel Shanghai Bell is now ready to provide an end-to-end TD-SCDMA solution, including core, access, application platform and terminals.
Tang Ruan, President of Datang Mobile, said, "Industrialization represents a major step forward in achieving commercial deployment of TD-SCDMA. As a pioneer of TD-SCDMA technology, we will be able to keep our commitment to bring a commercialised TD-SCDMA solution to the industry. The cooperation between Alcatel Shanghai Bell and Datang Mobile on industrialization will push the success of TD-SCDMA in China."
"As a Chinese company with international scope, we are proud to play a vital role in ensuring the timely introduction of China's home grown 3G standards," added Gerard Dega, President of Alcatel Shanghai Bell. "Through a close partnership with Datang Mobile, we are well positioned to support our customers in China's 3G market regardless of the standard they decide to adopt."
In April 2005, Alcatel Shanghai Bell and Datang jointly demonstrated a live end-to-end TD-SCDMA solution during the TD-SCDMA International Summit in Beijing. In April 2005 also, Alcatel Shanghai Bell officially joined the TD-SCDMA Alliance, an organization whose main purpose is to integrate and coordinate the industry resources for TD-SCDMA in China."
