NTT, NTT DoCoMo Develop Contactless IC Card"

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp. (9432.TO) and NTT DoCoMo Inc. (9437.TO) said Thursday they have developed prototypes for contactless integrated-circuit smart cards and mobile phone handsets that use the IC cards.

The technology will enable users to use the cellular handsets as an electronic ticket, employee ID and resident registration card, they said in a statement.

NTT, NTT DoCoMo, NTT Communications and Pia Corp. (4337.TO) will jointly test the technology on July 29-30 at the 2005 World Exposition being held in Aichi Prefecture, central Japan. They will lend the handsets to people who can use them for Pia's electronic ticket services, the companies said.
