Samsung Electronics and Kineto Wireless have entered into an agreement where Samsung will license Kineto Wireless Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology for inclusion in future Samsung Cellular/Wi-Fi handsets. UMA Technology, the 3GPP standard for Cellular/Wi-Fi convergence, enables mobile operators to leverage the economic and performance advantages of Wi-Fi/IP access to provide a dramatically improved subscriber experience for mobile voice, data and IMS services.
"Kineto is pleased to be working with a cellular handset industry leader known for innovative, first-to-market solutions," said Mark Powell, Vice President and Co-Founder of Kineto Wireless. "Carrier demand for UMA Technology solutions is exploding globally, and Samsung will be ready to meet this need."
Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology is the 3GPP standard for Cellular/Wi-Fi convergence. UMA Technology enables access to mobile voice, data and IMS services over IP broadband access and unlicensed spectrum technologies, such as Wi-Fi. By deploying UMA technology, service providers can enable subscribers to roam and handover between cellular networks and public and private WLANs using dual-mode mobile handsets. With UMA, subscribers receive a consistent user experience for their mobile voice, data and IMS services as they transition between networks."
