Comcast Executives:Not Interested In Buying Mobile Phone Co-FT

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) has considered buying a mobile telephone operator but doesn't believe an acquisition makes financial sense, senior executives at the company said, according to a Financial Times report on its Web site Monday.

"We don't want to own wireless per se, but to make our products available through wireless devices," the paper quoted Brian Roberts, chairman and chief executive, as saying.

Steve Burke, president and chief operating officer at Comcast, said he had been considering how best to do this, according to the FT. "There are three ways of getting there: buy a cellular company, do a deal with a cellular company, or start your own network. I don't think we will buy a cellular company. Relative valuations are too high, and I am skeptical that it could make financial sense," he said.

Burke said building a network would also be too expensive. "All the signs are that we are gravitating to the middle option," he said, according to the FT.
