Russian MMS and SMS Upgrade

Published on:

Russia's MTS (Mobile TeleSystems) has awarded LogicaCMG a US$7.3 million order, as part of the framework agreement signed with MTS in September last year. This new order builds on the first phase contract valued at US$5.6 million, which saw LogicaCMG upgrading MTS' existing LogicaCMG Short Message Service Centre (SMSC), and the deployment of LogicaCMG Wireless Service Brokers (WSBs) and Multimedia Messaging Service Centres (MMSCs) in February this year.

The new contract will see MTS deploying three Next Generation SMSCs in three Russian regions, two WSBs in two Russian regions and an additional one in Moscow, plus a new MMSC in Moscow, as well as software and hardware upgrades to the operator's messaging portfolio. Critical to the solution is LogicaCMG's Business Tools, which will provide MTS with business intelligence and customer care information using the large amounts of consumer data that the SMSC and MMSC gather. This automatically allows MTS to better understand usage patterns, allowing them to collate and analyse subscriber behaviour patterns.

Mobile TeleSystems is the largest mobile phone operator in Russia and the CIS. Together with its subsidiaries, the company services over 40.6 million subscribers. The regions of Russia, as well as Belarus, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, in which MTS and its subsidiaries are licensed to provide GSM services, have a total population of approximately 225.8 million."
