Ericsson Expands WCDMA Portfolio
STOCKHOLM -(Dow Jones)- Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Telefon AB L.M Ericsson (ERICY) Wednesday said it will expand its portfolio of Wideband Code Division Multiple Access to boost mass uptake of mobile triple play.
Ericsson said it will expand its WCDMA portfolio into the frequency bands of 850 Megahertz, 1800 Megahertz, 1700 Megahertz for Japan, and 1.7/2.1 Gigahertz for the United States.
To enhance capacity and coverage potential in the future, Ericsson's WCDMA solutions will also support the 900 Megahertz and 2.5 Gigahertz frequency bands.
The 850 Megahertz will be available this year, while the others will be ready by the middle of 2006, the company said.
Supporting the portfolio, Ericsson Mobile Platforms plans to add frequency bands in the WCDMA and HSDPA platforms to cover 2.1 Gigahertz, 1900 Megahertz, 1700 Megahertz and 850 Megahertz, in appropriate configurations, in 2006, the company said.
