Push to Talk Launched in Austria
mobilkom austria is to commercially launch its Push to Talk service, following tests that started back in September last year. mobilkom's Push-to-talk transmits voice communication in packet form via GPRS. The connection is made instantly, considerably simplifying phone conferencing, announcements, as well as casual conversations among friends.
"We want to offer our customers innovative products, services and additional functions. This service brings definite added value and benefits to both business and private customers - especially young customers. The service offers this added value whenever transmitting information quickly matters," says Dr. Hannes Ametsreiter, Director of Marketing, Distribution and Customer Service.
Push-to-talk uses the walkie-talkie principle: Pushing a 'talk' button on the mobile phone establishes a connection to one or more members of a 'buddy list' - a comprehensive address book. The connection is made at the push of a button, and the recipient immediately hears the message through the mobile phone's speaker, without having to pick up. Participants in the conversation take turns speaking by holding down the push-to-talk button. This function can also be muted or turned off as the situation requires.
With the commercial launch of this service the Nokia 6020 with push-to-talk setting will be made available through retailers"
