Jazztel Gets Spanish Mobile Virtual License

Sweden's Tele2 AB (TLTOB), UK's BT Group (BT) and Spanish companies Grupalia Internet SA and Meflur Comunicarte SL also own MVNO licenses, the spokeswoman said.

An MVNO operator leases all or most of its capacity from other operators and then sells it on to customers, saving the cost of building and maintaining a telephony network.

Earlier this month, Tele2 said it failed to clinch a deal to launch MVNO services in Spain, due to the lack of a "positive response" from the current network operators, Telefonica Moviles SA (TEM), Vodafone Group PLC (VOD) and Grupo Auna SA (AUNA.YY).

Later this year, Spain's government is slated to study measures to boost the development of MVNO in the country.
