Telefonica Moviles Hires Alcatel To Supply 3G Network
PARIS -(Dow Jones)- Spain's Telefonica Moviles SA (TEM) has hired Alcatel SA (ALA) for an undisclosed amount to supply its 3G/UMTS network infrastructure, the French telecom equipment maker said Thursday.
Under the terms of the agreement, Paris-based Alcatel will supply and install 3G/UMTS radio based stations, called Evolium Node I, which are particularly suited to "closed environments" and Indoor Broadband traffic.
Alcatel is providing Telefonica Moviles with its multi-standard Evolium solution comprising a compact and easy-to-install UMTS radio access node.
The Alcatel Evolium Nodes I are HSDPA-ready and provide a logical means of enhancing communication speeds with HSDPA technology, a key factor for avant-garde 3G applications that are particularly popular with business users, ensuring exceptional quality of service in closed environments.
The Alcatel solution will enable mobile end users, whether in shopping centers, corporate buildings, underground areas and car parks, train and bus stations or airports, to access to all Telefonica Moviles' 3G broadband services.
"We are proud that Telefonica Moviles is becoming one of our major partners in Europe having selected Alcatel's 3G/UMTS radio solution," said Marc Rouanne, Chief Operating Officer of Alcatel Mobile Communications activities.
"Through its exclusive service partnering with DoCoMo Engineering in 3G indoor coverage, Alcatel is uniquely positioned for the efficient roll-out of 3G broadband access solutions".
