Motorola Wins Saudi IDEN Contract

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Motorola Inc. (MOT) received a contract to create a nationwide integrated digital enhanced network wireless system in Saudi Arabia from Public Telecommunications Co., a consortium of four major Saudi companies authorized by the Saudi Telecommunications Co.

In a press release Monday, Motorola said the initial phase of the nationwide iDEN infrastructure contract, signed during the second half of 2004, is valued in excess of $40 million.

Motorola, which had 2004 sales of $31.3 billion, recognized $10 million of revenue from this contract in 2004.

Public Telecommunications Co. plans to launch the new wireless service, which offers push-to-talk capabilities for public access mobile radio users and commercial and industrial system customers, in the second quarter of 2005.

A portion of the purchase price is being financed by Motorola.

Separately Monday, Motorola agreed to implement Saudi Arabia's GSM mobile operator, Mobily, with a GSM Base-Station System mobile network including Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution and push-to-talk over Cellular.

Deployment of Mobily is taking place throughout early 2005.

Financial terms of the contract weren't disclosed.
