Kosovo GSM License Finally Awarded
The Court in Kosovo has passed a final judgment, ruling that the Kosovo Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (ART) is to grant frequencies to Mobitel-Mobikos consortium within 15 days. The competent court in Kosovo passed a judgement, ruling fully in favour of the complainant Mobitel - Mobikos consortium, deciding that the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (ART) is to grant Mobitel - Mobikos consortium the necessary frequencies in accordance with the licence agreement signed on 21 October 2004 within 15 days.
As of today the judgement is final, as both parties waived their participation at today's hearing.
Mobitel expects that the frequencies will be granted within the given time limit, so that the network construction of the second operator in Kosovo will now be able to begin.
The license was awarded last October, but shortly afterwards, the United Nations Mission in Kosova (UNMIK) cancelled the tender, claiming that not only had it not been formally notified that the license was to be awarded, but that the awards procedure was "seriously flawed"."
