Variable Pricing for Data Services in Ireland

Megisto Systems is supplying its Mobile Services Delivery System (MSDS) to the Irish mobile operator, Meteor to enable it to provide prepaid data and content charging. Megisto's software will ensure that Meteor's customers are aware instantaneously of their prepaid account status as they use the service. The Irish operator wants the ability to deliver a flexible yet simple service structure for mobile data that would allow them to dynamically control services delivered and charge based on such parameters as time-of-day, sites visited, and roaming status.

"As the third entrant into the Irish market, Meteor has to be more creative and more nimble than its incumbent competitors," said Gordon Saussy, CEO of Megisto Systems. "With a solid real-time billing foundation in place, Meteor can continue to innovate with the services it offers and examine new charging models to help drive subscriber uptake."

Differentiated MMS charging based on type, size, and location of recipient are all new ways in which Meteor can continue to lead the Irish mobile market in offering attractive subscriber packages. We're delighted to be working with Meteor and are excited to be with them at the start of the next stage of their growth."

Megisto's MSDS delivers highly flexible methods of managing and charging for mobile data transactions. Meteor can now make all services immediately available across prepaid and postpaid subscribers, charging for these services in the same manner. The system allows Meteor to flexibly control the services delivered, based on subscriber service plan, prepaid credit status, and other factors such as roaming status. The MSDS also allows Meteor to charge Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) based on message type, origin, and destination, to charge differently for different destinations and Web URLs, and to charge for applications on the basis of the source of the application."
