DoCoMo: Data On About 25,000 Users May Have Been Leaked"

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- NTT DoCoMo Inc. (9437.TO) said Monday it is looking into a case involving the possible leakage of personal information on 24,632 mobile telephone subscribers.

The information that may have been leaked includes subscribers' names, addresses, mobile telephone numbers and fixed-line telephone numbers.

The company said in a press release it has yet to identify the source of the leak.

An NTT DoCoMo spokeswoman said the mobile phone carrier first found out about the possible leak after a local media organization told it last week that it had come across a list of what appeared to be NTT DoCoMo subscribers, she said.

The company said the data on the list included subscribers' names, addresses and telephone numbers.

NTT DoCoMo said most of the subscribers on the list were those who reside in areas hit by the strong earthquakes in northeastern Niigata prefecture in October and received a temporary call-charge cut, or people who used a quick dialing service between Dec. 1 and Dec. 23 last year.
