V-Enable has announced the release of the Motion Interface Engine, or Motion, a new software application designed to turn any camera-equipped mobile phone into a mouse. Motion uses the camera lens on the phone to register a change in physical position coordinates of the phone and consequently the position in the application. V-Enable is working with leading developers and publishers to launch the first application using Motion to consumers in the US by Q2 2005.
Motion can be used in the air and doesn't require a solid surface in order to register any position change and enables users to access, navigate, and interact with content in new and exciting ways. Using Motion, users can create an interactive experience with their phone, accessing applications in an intuitive mouse-like way.
Application developers can now develop new applications using Motion technology as the application can be either pre-installed by handset manufacturers or over-the-air (OTA) installed by users on to existing handsets. The application requires no other hardware or software to be installed on the phone and any camera phone can be used, irrespective of camera resolution.
Fernando Corona, President & CEO of V-Enable, said, "This new application from V-Enable is designed to improve the interaction between user and device. The mobile keypad is not always the most ideal method of navigating around a mobile phone and we've now provided users with an alternative method of doing so, one that should prove intuitive for most users." Corona continued, "We are excited that cutting edge companies will be using Motion in their new games."
