Caribbean Operator Plans Expansion This Year
The Caribbean based GSM network operator, Digicel Group says that its customer base has increased by 33 percent over the past year. Raoul Fontanez, CEO, Digicel Group is attributing this significant growth to the company's entry into new markets as well as its increased market share in the Caribbean. The Digicel Group CEO outlines that over the last twelve months, "Digicel has solidified its position as the largest GSM mobile provider in the region", and has also ensured that the public gains easy access to new offerings and quality service.
The dramatic increase in Digicel's subscribers, comes at a time when the company is ranked as the leading company in customer satisfaction in Jamaica, according to a study conducted by Marketing Strategy Ltd., a Jamaica-based market research organization.
The quarterly research analyzed feedback from respondents across the island and revealed that consumers named Digicel as the number one customer service provider in Jamaica. According to the findings from the survey which were released in December, Digicel was named by 50% of respondents when asked to name the top three companies in Jamaica they believe to offer "excellent customer service."
Digicel plans to continue growing its pan-Caribbean network and market share across Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Aruba, St. Vincent/Grenadines, Barbados and The Cayman Islands during this year. "Digicel is poised for continued success in the new year, with plans to expand our footprint in the region and launch valuable, new communications services for our customers," says Fontanez.
Digicel continues to be a significant contributor to local economies, which includes the creation of hundreds of jobs for local residents and companies that service operations. Digicel employs close to 1,000 staff members, of which 90 percent are of Caribbean descent."
