Network Infrastructure Revenues Jump
Dell'Oro Group has predicted that mobile infrastructure market revenues will have increased to US$36.1 billion in 2004, an increase of 26% over the prior year. Revenues from sales of mobile infrastructure equipment are anticipated to grow until 2007, at which time revenues are expected to plateau at approximately US$39 billion through 2009.
Dell'Oro Group tracks sales of the following mobile infrastructure equipment: GSM/GPRS/EDGE, TDMA, CDMA, and WCDMA.
Revenues from WCDMA and CDMA equipment are expected to offset declines in revenues of GSM equipment through 2009.
"Although we expect increased investment in WCDMA technology through 2009, we are forecasting a 58 percent increase in revenues in 2006 from major WCDMA deployments as Cingular expands its WCDMA network in the United States and as Service Providers in China build new 3G networks," commented Greg Collins, Senior Director of Mobile Infrastructure Research at Dell'Oro Group. "In addition, we anticipate that CDMA revenues will increase, especially in 2007, as Sprint begins to replace Nextel's iDen network."
