Egyptian Operator Passes Subscriber Landmark

The Egyptian GSM network operator, MobiNil says that it has passed the four million subscriber number mark. Commenting on the achievement, the company also noted that it now has nearly 2,000 base staions in the country and 17 network switches.

MobiNil was also the first telecom company to acquire ISO 14001 certification in Egypt and the Middle East in 2001, MobiNil in August 2004 obtained an official renewal of the ISO 14001 certificate for the fourth consecutive year.

The Mobile GSM900 cellular network in Egypt is operated by The Egyptian Company for Mobile Services (ECMS), an Egyptian public company, under the MobiNil brand name. The Orange group and Orascom both hold about a third of the company with the rest free traded on the Egyptian stock exchange."
