American Trade Bodies to Cooperate

3G Americas and The Association of Telecommunications Enterprises of the Andean Community (ASETA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a mutual cooperation regarding wireless communications issues in the region. This cooperative relationship between 3G Americas and ASETA entails the sharing of technical information and participation in related wireless events as well as other projects and actvities.

The working agreement between these two industry bodies will help to further strengthen the wireless evolution in the Andean community as ASETA assists in the harmonious development of telecommunications and in the process of integration of the Andean region countries of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.

Chris Pearson, President of 3G Americas, commented, "Collaborating with ASETA on areas of common interests to both our organizations' objectives benefits the wireless industry and customers in the Andean community. The focus is just not on the wireless evolution but will also include spectrum policies and planning, regulation, and using wireless technology to support the social and economic development in this region."

3G Americas' Director of Latin America and the Caribbean, Erasmo Rojas, emphasized the importance of undertaking joint projects with ASETA to support the wireless regulatory activities of Andean countries that would have an impact in regulatory discussions taking place at CITEL (Inter-American Telecommunication Commission), the official regulatory body of the Americas.

Marcelo Lopez, General Secretary of ASETA, added, "We look forward to working with 3G Americas to address issues on the wireless development within the Andean community in an effort to expand communications for all people throughout the region."
