Orange Looking to Outsource Call Center Work to India
The UK arm of the phone network, Orange is reported to be considering outsourcing some 1,500 call center jobs to India. A report in the Daily Telegraph said that the company has started trials with two India based sub-contractors, Convergys and Vertex, in which 215 call centre workers in Delhi will answer customer service inquiries during peak periods.
The report says that if the trials are successful, then there will be a migration of staff numbers to India as UK staff leave the company and are not replaced.
An Orange spokesman said: "A final figure on the number of roles we intend to outsource will not be decided until these trials are complete. The steps we are taking will not lead to site closures and redundancies.
The company is however making around 200 staff based at its technical center redundant."
