FCC Official Sees More Wireless Spectrum Auctioned In '05

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The Federal Communications Commission will offer more radio spectrum for wireless carriers next year in addition to the licenses scheduled to be auctioned in January, an agency official said.

"There will be more spectrum and it will be auctioned," Robert Pepper, chief of policy development at the FCC, said at a conference hosted by Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. here Thursday.

"We have not yet set a date for that," he said, but added it will likely happen in 2005.

Separately, the FCC will re-auction licenses that previously belonged to NextWave Telecom Inc. beginning Jan. 26.
