T-Mobile UK Triples Wi-Fi Network Via BT Tie-Up
LONDON -(Dow Jones)- T-Mobile U.K., the British mobile telecommunications arm of Deutsche Telekom AG (DT), Thursday said it has tied-up with BT Group PLC's (BTY) BT Openzone division to offer both companies' customers Wi-Fi Internet access.
Wi-Fi, or wireless fidelity, Internet provides faster Internet access than 3G mobile technology, with no need for cables, as long as the phone is in range of a connection hotspot.
T-Mobile said it has tripled the number of U.K. hotspots available to its customers via the BT Openzone agreement. It said customers of both companies will have access to 1,900 hotspots in the U.K. and 10,500 hotspots across Europe.
