EDGE Launch for Malaysia

Malaysia's DiGi Telecommunications has launched its EDGE network upgrade in the Klang Valley. Speaking at a media briefing on the launch of these services, DiGi's Head of Mobile, Mr. Erik Aas said, "Wireless data and multimedia services are becoming increasingly important to our customers, some would like to improve their business, others are having a lot of fun with these services".. "By introducing state of the art technology, we are now able to deliver the best data speeds and quality in Malaysia", added Mr. Aas

Among the other services that are made available for DiGi customers in the Klang Valley is its Traffic Info service, which provides an overview of real-time traffic conditions on selected Klang Valley roads. Colour images captured by cameras at selected locations, are sent to customers' phones, enabling them to avoid congested areas and delays.

Mr. Aas also announced DiGi's newly developed icon based portal. "The Icon based WAP portal is significantly improving the us ability of the mobile internet services, and this will accelerate the take up rate among consumers" he explained.

Although the speed and quality is improved, the services on EDGE will cost no more than the rates DiGi currently charges for its GPRS services. For the moment, MMS and traffic information content is available, free of charge.

Over the next few months, DiGi will continue to be competitive and commercially make available more new services on its EDGE network, with a strong commitment to enhance its customers' mobile communications experience on DiGi's superior network quality and drive innovation for the industry at large."
